CALABRIA1 During the first half of 2023, there were no significant changes in the general framework concerning the situation of organized crime in the Calabria Region.

As will be best illustrated in the course of this discussion, the investigations of the semester under consideration have, in summary, evidenced the confirmation of the international projection of the drug trafficking of the 'ndrangheta, in relations with suppliers of cocaine of the Central and South America (Colombia, Brazil, Ecuador and Panama) and with paramilitary organizations active in the field as the Gulf clan in Colombia (operations "Sunset"2, "Eureka"3 and "Gentleman2"4).

In addition, the money laundering activity is confirmed to be established by the 'ndrangheta in several European countries (France, Germany and Portugal), through the purchase of luxury goods and the start of activities in the areas of catering and self-washing (Eureka operation) thanks also to the operation of subjects of Chinese nationality (operation "Aspromonte Emiliano"5).

Further confirmation of the ultra regional projection (especially Milan and Lombardy) of the mafia clan BELLOCCO (operation "Crypto"6), as well as already reported in the previous semester (operation "Return"7).

The same considerations apply to Emilia Romagna, with the presence of the Croatian mafia clans and regimens (operation "Aspromonte Emiliano").

Another important element of interest emerged from the motivations of the judgment of the process "Move Jonico, ordinary proceedings, deposit the 14 marzo 2023 from the Court of Appeal of Reggio Calabria8, which depicted the existence of a "federal" system that, articulated by competences, enrolls the subjects of the order and staff9 at the provincial level.

It is confirmed, as already mentioned, the role of power assumed by female figures of the mafia clan PIROMALLI, who manage the business in the absence of husbands and fathers in prison status (operation "Hybris"), in continuity with what emerged last semester for the mafia clan BELLOCCO (operation "Blu Night") and the mafia clan ROSMINI-SERRAvo).

The extreme fragmentation of the Calabrese criminal reality involves the graphical representation of only the main components of the 'ndrangheta, whose positioning on the map is merely indicative.

3. Presences of organized crime on national and foreign territory and contrast activities Antimafia Reports have still emerged in the field of drug trafficking with extra regional criminal organizations (operation "Cagnolino"10 of the Procura Palermo, operation "Primavera Fredda"11).

Also for the semester in question, the relevant number of judicial pronouncements, reached at the end of the many trials, often with the dismissal of heavy convictions with representatives of the organized crime, who have concerned the competence of the Tribunals of the district of Reggio Calabria.

La sentenza emessa il 25 marzo 2023 nel processo di appello "'Ndrangheta stragista" (già citato al Capitolo 2) ha confermato la pronuncia di condanna all'ergastolo a carico dei due imputati, per l'omicidio di due Carabinieri e per i tentati omicidi posti in essere tra la fine del 1993 e l'inizio del 1994 nel capoluogo reggino, nell'ottica di adesione, da parte della 'ndrangheta, al progetto stragista continentale elaborato da cosa nostra.

In particular, the only Guardia di Finanza, in the course of 10 operations conducted in the port of Gioia Tauro (RC), has seized almost 3, 5 tons of cocaine.
