Province of Cosenza The province of Bruzia is affected by the presence of certain mafia organizations that act in a context now consolidated and in relation to balance between them.

The local mafia clans, historically linked to the families of the bra, the Vibonese and the Crotonese, have also expanded the capacities of "environmental penetration" in the socio-economic fabric of Cosentino.

A Cosenza e nel suo hinterland (principalmente a Rende e Roggiano Gravina) è stata accertata la presenza di più cosche mafiose - dedite in prevalenza alle estorsioni, alla gestione del traffico di stupefacenti nonché all'usura e alle rapine - le quali, in base agli esiti dell'inchiesta "Reset" conclusa dalla Guardia di finanza e dalla Polizia di Stato il 1° settembre 2022, risultano far capo ad una "confederazione" composta da sette diverse articolazioni 'ndranghetiste che manterrebbero un sostanziale ed unitario assetto strutturale.

All'esito della menzionata inchiesta "Reset", l'11 novembre 2022 il Prefetto di Cosenza ha emesso un decreto di sospensione degli amministratori locali di un Comune della provincia.75 L'11 novembre 2022, i Carabinieri e la Guardia di finanza di Cosenza, nell'ambito dell'operazione "Malarintha"76, hanno tratto in arresto 3 persone ritenute responsabili a vario titolo di corruzione, peculato, turbata libertà di incanti, inadempimenti di contratti in pubbliche forniture, frode nelle pubbliche forniture, falsità in atti commessa da pubblico ufficiale, abuso d'ufficio e rivelazione di segreto d'ufficio.

Il 15 settembre 2022, i Carabinieri di Scalea (CS) e Paola (CS) hanno dato esecuzione ad un'ordinanza di custodia in carcere77 emessa a carico di 5 soggetti ritenuti appartenenti alla cosca MUTO di Cetraro (CS) ed accusati di tentato omicidio, lesioni personali ed estorsione in concorso, con l'aggravante del metodo mafioso, detenzione e porto abusivo di arma comune da sparo, nonché di violenza o minaccia a pubblico ufficiale.

3 ottobre 2022, Carabinieri Scalea (CS) have under arrest a prominent latizer of the mafia clan MUTO, operating in Cetraro (CS) and in the neighboring municipalities, having to expiate a penalty of 5 years and 4 months of imprisonment for attempted extortion in competition, aggravated by the mafia method.

In Fuscaldo (CS) the group TUNDIS opposed to the mafia clan SCOFANOMARTELLO- DITTO- LA ROSA would be operating.

In Amantea (CS), however, the presence of two distinct criminal groups: on the one hand the GENTILE-GUIDO-AFRICAN and, on the other, the BESALDO which would maintain relations of not belligerence only for the pursuit of reciprocal illicit interests.

Towards the end of June 2023, the Council of Ministers, on a proposal from the Minister of the Interior, entrusted the management of the Municipality of Rende (CS), for the duration of 18 months, to an extraordinary commission appointed pursuant to the art. 143 of the Legislative Decree. No 276 of 18 agosto 2000.

The Municipality of Corigliano-Rossano (CS), which became the third municipality of Calabria by number of inhabitants, would continue to be affected by multiple criminal dynamics recomprehended in the original two urban areas.

Corigliano would be under the criminal influence of the opposing families of the BARILARI and the The BARILARI would have close alliances with both the ACRI family of Rossano, and with the mafia clan of the ZINGARI-ABBRUZZESE active in Cassano allo Jonio (CS).

The CONOCCHIA, on the other hand, already affiliated to the old CARELLI family, turns out to have ties with mafia clans regiments.

In the area of Rossano the mafia clan ACRI-MORFO, whose criminal activities prevailing are the extortion, traffic and drug trafficking, the management and control of public procurement and the money laundering with reinvestments in the roasting and derived products, in supervisory services, in the distribution of bakery products and other foodstuffs, in the rental of video games of illicit kind.

In the area of the Municipalities of Campana (CS) and Mandatoriccio (CS), as already emerged from the operation of January 2018 called "Stige"78, would operate a criminal group managed by the family SANTORO (subordinated to the mafia clan cirotana FARAO-MARINCOLA) mainly devoted to extortion and drug dealing, abusive pasture, forest cutting, cattle thefts and occupation of land with reinvestments in the fields of agriculture and commerce.

In Altomonte (CS) it would operate the criminal organisation called MAGLIARI, dedicated to extortion in damage of local traders and entrepreneurs and to traffic of drugs.

The aforementioned partnership also maintains affiliation with the local FARAO - MARINCOLA di Cirò (KR), as well as with the FORASTEFANO di Cassano all'Ionio (CS).

In Cassano All'Ionio (CS) two important criminal consortia, among the most dangerous and agguerrite of the province of Cosenza: that of the ZINGARI, traceable to the ABBRUZZESE family active between Cassano All'Ionio and Cosenza, and that of the FORASTEFANO.

The two clans, after a conflict period, have been approached and would now be allies in drug trafficking and extortion.

The 20 luglio 2022, in Paola (CS), Rome, Cagliari and Switzerland, the Carabinieri of Cosenza have performed a ruling of pre-trial detention issued by the GIP of Catanzaro, arresting 4 people for a double painful murder, aggravated by the Mafioso motive79.
