Maxi seizure of approximately 800 kilograms of pure cocaine

Savona - Joint operation with Customs inside the port of Vado Ligure

The soldiers of the Provincial Command of Savona, with the collaboration of colleagues from the Economic-Financial Police Unit of Genoa, and together with the officials of the Anti-fraud Section of the ADM Liguria 3 Office of Savona, shortly after a previous seizure of the same nature, identified, at the port of Vado Ligure, a load of 650 blocks containing, before packaging, a total quantity of over 770 kg of narcotic substance which, following a rapid analysis carried out at the time of the check, was found to be pure cocaine.

The large batch of drugs was cleverly hidden among dozens of pallets of bananas, inside a refrigerated container coming from one of the main ports of Ecuador.

The operation is, once again, the result of a widespread analysis and control activity conducted by the financiers of the Savona Group and by the staff of the local Customs Agency, carried out on the trade routes that connect South America with the port of Vado Ligure, an increasingly important crossroads of trade flows for Europe and, as such, an attractive port of call also for the perpetration of illicit trafficking.

This latest seizure of cocaine represents one of the most significant anti-drug operations carried out in recent years in the Vade port; the seized narcotic, if placed on the market, would have generated huge profits for criminal organizations, with a retail value estimated at around 250 million euros.

The service operation is part of a constant and targeted action to combat international drug trafficking aimed, among other things, at preserving the weakest sections of the population who are often exposed to the harmful effects generated by this criminal phenomenon.
